# Quick Setup Guide

> Get your classroom economy running in about 15 minutes

## Get Started in Five Steps

Follow this guide to set up your first classroom economy and start engaging your students with ClassCents.

### Step 1: Create Your First Classroom

  <Step title="Open the Create Classroom Wizard">
    From your **Dashboard**, find the **Your Classrooms** card and click **Create Classroom**. A 2-step wizard opens.

  <Step title="Step 1 — Basics">
    * **Classroom Name** (required): A memorable name (e.g., "Ms. Smith's Grade 3")
    * **Grade Level** (optional): A number from 1–12

    Click **Next**.

  <Step title="Step 2 — Settings">
    * **Class Goal Amount** (optional): A shared savings target shown on the classroom card
    * **Starting Balance** (optional): Every new student added to this classroom will begin with this balance

    A live preview shows what your classroom card will look like.

  <Step title="Create the Classroom">
    Click **Create Classroom** — you'll land on your new classroom workspace.

### Step 2: Configure Your Currency

  <Step title="Open Classroom Currency">
    Navigate to **Settings** → **Classroom Settings** → **Currency** (page titled **Classroom Currency**).

  <Step title="Choose Your Setup">
    * **Reward System Type**: **Points System** (whole numbers) or **Currency System** (dollar-style with decimals)
    * **Currency Symbol** (Currency mode only): Pick from `$ £ € ¥ ₹ ₱ ₩ ₦ ฿ ₫ ₴`
    * **Currency Name**: Create a fun name (e.g., "Eagle Bucks", "Star Points")
    * **Display Currency Name**: Toggle to show the name next to balances

  <Step title="Apply Changes">
    Click **Apply Changes** when the button activates. Use the **Live Preview** on the right to confirm.

### Step 3: Add Your Students

  <Step title="Navigate to Students Section">
    Click on your classroom → **Students** tab

  <Step title="Add Students">
    Choose your method:

    * **Add Individual**: Enter one student at a time with custom settings
    * **Bulk Add**: Add multiple students quickly with the bulk form

  <Step title="Adjust Balances if Needed">
    You can adjust individual student balances anytime from the Transactions page.
  </Step>

### Step 4: Create Rewards

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Global Rewards">
    Navigate to **Settings** → **Classroom Settings** → **Global Rewards**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Reward Builder">
    Click the dashed **Add New Reward** card to open the **Create New Global Reward** dialog.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the Reward">
    * **Reward Title**: What students see (e.g., "Homework Pass", "Extra Recess")
    * **Cost**: The price in your currency
    * **Stock**: How many copies are available
    * **Select Reward Icon**: Pick from the icon library, or **Upload Custom Image** (optional)
    * **Make Reward Visible**: Students can see it
    * **Auctionable**: Can be added to auctions
    * **Redeemable**: Students can redeem it directly with points

  <Step title="Create Multiple Tiers">
    Mix low-cost (5–10), medium (25–100), and high-cost (200+) rewards so students have options at every balance level.
  </Step>

<Warning>Start with 5-10 rewards. You can always add more as students get comfortable with the system!</Warning>

### Step 5: Start Awarding Points

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Your Classroom Workspace">
    From the dashboard, click your classroom to open its workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Award the Whole Class">
    Click **Award All Students** in the action toolbar. Enter an **Amount** and a **Reason for Award** (e.g., "Great participation today!"), then confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Award an Individual Student">
    Click a student card and use **Give Points** (or the quick-action buttons) to award or deduct points with a custom reason.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Student Access">
    Generate QR codes so students can view their balances and shop for rewards → see [Student Dashboard Guide](/students/accessing-dashboard).

## Tips for Success

    Don't overwhelm yourself with every feature at once. Start with basic currency and rewards, then add badges, jobs, and auctions as you get comfortable.

    Let students help name the currency, suggest rewards, and provide feedback. Student buy-in is crucial for success!

    Consistency is key. Award points regularly and fairly so students trust the system and stay motivated.

    Use the analytics dashboard to see what's working. Adjust reward prices and earning opportunities based on student engagement.
