# Student Management

> Add students, track balances, and manage profiles effectively

## Adding Students

### Individual Registration

The **Add New Student** dialog is a 3-step wizard.

  <Step title="Open the Students Tab">
    From your classroom workspace, open the **Students** tab and click **Add Student**.

  <Step title="Step 1 — Name">
    * **First Name** (required)
    * **Last Name** (required)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Step 2 — Customize">
    * **Job** (optional): Assign a paid classroom job from your job library
    * **Group** (Pro feature, optional): Add the student to a group
    * **Avatar** (optional): Upload an image or pick from the avatar library
  </Step>

  <Step title="Step 3 — Goal">
    * **Goal Amount** (optional): A personal savings target shown on the student's dashboard
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Add Student**. The student appears immediately in your roster with their own QR-accessible dashboard.
  </Step>

<Note>
  New students automatically receive the **Starting Balance** configured on the classroom (if any). Starting balance is set when you create or edit the classroom — not on the per-student form.
</Note>

### Bulk Add

For adding entire class rosters quickly:

    Click **Bulk Add** in the Students header.

  <Step title="Enter Multiple Students">
    Type names into the quick-add rows. Each row creates one student.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit">
    All students are created at once with default settings. Edit individuals later for avatars, jobs, groups, or goals.
  </Step>

<Tip>
  Bulk add is fastest for roster setup. You can always edit individual student details later.
</Tip>

## Student Profile Information

Clicking a student opens their profile with tabs for everything tracked about them:

    * **Current Balance**
    * **Personal Goal**: Optional goal amount with progress bar
    * **Quick action buttons** for awarding or deducting points
    * **Recent activity** summary

  <Tab title="Transactions">
    Complete ledger of every point change with amount, reason, source, and timestamp.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Badges">
    Every badge the student has earned, including the date and reason. Teachers can manually award badges from this tab.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Jobs">
    Active classroom jobs assigned to the student, with payment history.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Investments">
    Portfolio holdings, available cash, total invested, and gain/loss — if the classroom Stock Market is enabled.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Note>
  Students have a unique short **nano ID** used in their dashboard URL and QR code. You can regenerate or print these from the **QR Codes** page — see [QR Code Login](/students/qr-codes).

## Managing Student Balances

### Whole-Class Awards

Award every student in the classroom at once.

  <Step title="Open the Classroom Workspace">
    Click your classroom from the dashboard.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Award All Students">
    The action toolbar at the top has an **Award All Students** button (Gift icon).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick an Amount and Reason">
    Use the **Quick Amount** buttons or type a custom amount, then choose a preset reason from the **Academic / Social / Behavioral** tabs or type **Reason for Award** manually.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Every student in the class receives the same amount with the same reason. Confetti included.
  </Step>

### Individual Awards & Deductions

    Click a student card to open their profile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use Give Points or Quick Buttons">
    * **Quick action buttons** apply preset positive or negative amounts in one click (configured in Quick Buttons settings)
    * **Give Points** opens a dialog with preset reasons (e.g., "Excellent participation", "Helping classmates") plus a **Custom reason** field and **Amount**

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The transaction is logged immediately and the student's balance updates in real time.
  </Step>

<Warning>
  Always include a reason for transactions — this maintains trust and provides valuable analytics data.
</Warning>

### Automatic Earning

Students can earn automatically through:

* **Classroom Jobs**: Scheduled payouts ([learn more](/advanced/jobs))
* **Achievement Badges**: Bonus points for milestones ([learn more](/advanced/badges))
* **Stock Market**: Investment gains ([learn more](/advanced/investments))

## Student Groups & Organization

<Info>**Pro feature** — Student Groups are available on Classroom Pro plans.</Info>

Groups let you organize students within a classroom for targeted awards, job payouts, and bill assignments.

Manage groups from your classroom workspace under the **Groups** tab.

## Editing Student Information

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click a Student">
    From the Students tab, click any student card to open their profile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Edit Dialog">
    Click the **Edit** button (pencil icon) on the student card or detail page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update Information">
    Modify any field:

    * First and last name
    * Avatar (upload or pick from library)
    * Job assignment
    * Group (Pro)
    * Personal goal amount
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save Changes">
    Updates are immediate. Balance changes go through the transaction system instead — see Managing Student Balances above.
  </Step>

## Privacy & Security

## Removing Students

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Student">
    Navigate to the student you want to remove and open their **Edit** dialog.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Delete Student">
    Use the **Delete Student** action and confirm in the prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Deletion removes the student from this classroom. Their transaction records remain in the database for reporting.
  </Step>

<Warning>
  Deletion cannot be undone from the UI. Double-check the student before confirming — contact support if you removed someone by mistake.
</Warning>
